Apple’s core business has always been music and the media player segment with the iPod being a great hit, but as the market saturated it launched the iPhone and the iPad which have also become instant hits amongst the users. There has been an unprecedented fall in the prices of iPod models recently, which has only made them more affordable. It is hard to fathom the ideology behind the discount strategy of Apple. It could either be a way to clear out their stock or of making sure that current generation iPod exist with their upcoming pricier line.
